Joy Imai has a studio and retail space called "Special Handling Pottery" since 1986. In the studio, she throws and hand builds all the porcelain pieces in the shop. The shop is full of her current and past works. She is also going through boxes of Japanese pottery that was bought in the past and is putting them out for sale now. Many are discontinued works and their makers are retired.
The shop also includes the work of other artisans. They help staff the shop and keep things running smoothly.
Inja Ink Calligraphy has elegant notecards, special book markers and wall hangings - all in her personal italic hand lettering. She includes poetry and quotes and wise proverbs that she's collected for many years. Inja also does a lot of the Bay Area's wedding invitations.
Blanch Prior is a fabric artisan specializing in sashiko stitchery and applique constructions. Blanche also does distinct and varied collaged notecards.
Patti Avery is a fine-art painter and uses her watercolors to make notecards, many depicting and capturing the old world charm of the Allied Arts Guild. She also uses Japanese Yuzu paper for making notecards and decorative fans.
The shop has large selections of Deerhaven soaps, Shizu's wrapped stones, Japanese incense and Wind River chimes. We also have a large variety of chopsticks and rests. And we have a shop cat named Yuki that loves to be admired.
